Australian Navy Sea Power Conference 2008 is in session
Australia's Defense Minister, the Hon Joel Fitzgibbon MP, Chief of Navy, Vice Admiral Russ Shalders, and some of the world's leading naval and maritime experts are currently meeting in Sydney, Australia to discuss global security challenges in the maritime environment.
Australian Navy Sea Power Conference 2008, along with the Pacific 2008 Congress was opened by the Australian Defense Minister on Tuesday, January 29, 2008. Held at the Darling Harbor Convention Center in Sidney, the conference will end on Thursday, January 31, 2008
In his first major speech as Minister for Defence, Mr Fitzgibbon outlined the important work being undertaken by members of the Australian Defense Force (ADF) around the globe.
Our Navy has a fundamentally important role to play in the defense of Australia and our national interests. Strong links with regional allies is essential as we work collectively to maintain regional security and build prosperity. Conferences such as this allow us to discuss issues of mutual interest and to build understanding and confidence between nations.
Participating in the Conference are senior Naval officers from the United States, the United Kingdom, India, Pakistan and Singapore.
