Somali pirates snatch luxury cruise yacht

Le Ponant PiracySomali pirates took over French luxury cruise yacht, Le Ponant, in the Gulf of Aden on Friday March 4, 2008. The pirates are currently holding 30 crew members hostage, no passengers were on board. The yacht was boarded by the pirates while sailing from Somalia, where it had refueled, to the port of Aden, Yemen. According to a company spokesperson, the cruise ship was on its way from the the Seychelles to the Mediterranean Sea. The International Maritime Bureau has advised vessels that are not making scheduled calls to ports in Somalia to keep a distance of 200 nautical miles away from the Somali coast.
