Latest Piracy and Threats to Shipping Report - May 17, 2008
The Office of Naval Intelligence (ONI) and the ICC Commercial Crime Services released their latest Maritime Safety Information on May 14 and May 19, 2008. The following maritime security incidents took place between May13 and May 19, 2008.
- Nigeria, May 13, 2008: A supply vessel, with 11 crew, was boarded and hijacked while underway near the Fairway Buoy area. The hijackers have demanded a ransom for the safe release of crew and vessel.
- Somalia, May 17, 2008: Pirates boarded and hijacked a general cargo ship underway. Ship was on passage to Mogadishu, Somalia.
